Common questions

What do I need?

An iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, and accessories or cameras set up in the Home app. Without a home you can still explore everything in Demo Mode.

My accessories don’t appear

Check that Hallpane has access to your home in the iPad’s Settings > Privacy & Security > HomeKit. If you have more than one home, pick the right one in Hallpane’s Settings > Accessories and scenes, then choose which accessories to show.

Will I be told when the doorbell rings?

While Hallpane is open on screen, the doorbell camera pops up live. Hallpane can’t run in the background, but the Home app’s own notifications keep working as usual.

How do I keep Hallpane on screen?

Guided Access keeps the iPad on Hallpane. Turn it on in Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access, open Hallpane, then triple-click the Home button (or the top button on iPads without one) to start it.

Does the screen stay on all the time?

While Hallpane is open and outside your night window, yes. At night it can dim to a dark clock or let the iPad sleep. Sleep uses the iPad’s Auto-Lock time in Settings > Display & Brightness, or Display Auto-Lock in the Guided Access settings; if that’s set to Never, the iPad won’t sleep. Hallpane can’t wake the iPad in the morning.

How do I look after the battery?

An iPad on charge all the time can, over months or years, develop a swollen battery. Plug the charger into a smart plug and use a Home automation to turn it off for a few hours each day. Some newer iPads offer a charging limit in Settings > Battery. Keep the iPad away from heat and direct sunlight. If the screen starts to lift or the case bulges, unplug it and contact Apple or an authorised service provider.

The weather says “Getting the weather”

Check the iPad is online and that a place is chosen in Settings > Weather. Weather pauses during the night window and resumes in the morning.

How do I open a locked Settings?

Locked Settings opens with Face ID, Touch ID or the iPad’s own passcode, so anyone who knows the iPad’s passcode can open it.
